  • Dr Carlo Antonio Beretta (bioimage analysis) studied Biology and Molecular Biology at the University of Milan, Italy. In 2009, he moved to Heidelberg, Germany where he obtained his PhD degree in Natural Science at Heidelberg University. During his PhD studies in the field of neuroscience he became familiar with several microscopy techniques and image analysis approaches. To gain his knowledge in microscopy and image analysis, he started his PostDoc in 2013 at the Nikon Imaging Center, Heidelberg University as a member of the Excellence Cluster CellNetworks (AG Engel, Nikon Imaging Center and AG Nedelec, EMBL). During his PostDoc, he further developed his expertise in microscopy, image analysis, low and high-level programming languages and he established skills in mathematical modelling. He has been a member of the Math-Clinic since July 2016, providing support for bioimage analysis.

  • Qi Gao studied Computer Science at Saarland University. From 2009 to 2014 he worked at TU Darmstadt on image processing and computer vision, in particular statistical image analysis and modelling, image feature learning, image restoration, motion estimation and efficient algorithms. In 2015, he was a computer vision algorithm engineer at CanControls GmbH in Aachen. Since February 2016 he is an bioimage analysis scientist within the Math-Clinic and is associated with Biomedical Computer Vision Group headed by PD Dr Karl Rohr at Heidelberg University. In addition to providing support and teaching activities to life scientists, he develops new algorithms for bioimage analysis problems such as microscopy image registration, particle tracking, and deconvolution.

  • Dr Matthew Betts (bioinformatics).

  • Dr Chong Zhang (bioimage analysis).
